Snail Boy Formerly Known as Four Legs

So Mr Four Legs evolved to Snail Boy here which I gave to my students to play around with for their texturing assignment. Decided not to detail the hell out of it as it'll defeat the whole purpose of learning good texturing for them. Although, I am entertaining the idea of fleshing out more of his details for my own personal fun. Anyways, in my own little head, Snail Boy here is supposedly the missile man (he uses a slignshot) for the Seelie Court's army. Initially he was meant to be the mean, ridiculously mobile infantry of the Unseelie Court but somehow he ended up looking more gentler and softer than I planned. Heh.

*To the clueless, The Seelie and The Unseelie are basically Scottish classification of fairies :P

WIP- Four Legs (roughly 30 mins)

I've been a very naughty girl. Instead of doing my research I did a Zbrush quickie instead. Started out with some lizard-y looking dude but felt it was kinda meh. So I scrapped the entire thing off and ended up with Four Legs here. I'm not too hot on the hind legs (come to think of it the feet as well) but I'll work on Four Legs summore later this week. For now.. I've got to hit the books. Fun. :P

Native American Cloth

Woo. 2 posts in day.

Because Azman keeps bugging me to post more regularly, I'm posting up an old piece I did way back when I was a slave for the corporate entity (2 years ago).  There was a reference for this lying somewhere in my hard drive and floating around somewhere in the WWW, can't find it now, though. I'll post it up if I ever come across it again. Secretly done in my cubicle with Corel Painter.

Was trying out Alchemy, a freeware that helps you generate random shapes and stuff. Try it out it's fun to see what you can get. So anyways, started off with this doodle with the Alchemy:

Yeah, it's just a bunch of blots and squares. Painted over it in Photoshop, though, and ended up with this:
Finished. For now, at least. Might go back and re-do the head dress.

Sculptris Part II

Continued where I stopped a cuppla days ago. Spent an hour or two with the face details, did a bit of the upper torso and decided to stop there. Painted this in the wee hours of Friday. Didn't really spend a lot of time on it so I never really get to fully work around with Sculptris' paint tool. Applied Normal material to it and I thought the skin colour and feel kinda stand out. I prefer the unpainted version somehow. But a bit of a critique would be nice. Cheers.

Sculptris Part I

A quick doodle with Sculptris just before I hurried home yesterday.

Pixologic programmer Tomas Pettersson did a kick-ass job on creating this freeware (yeap, it's free). Try it. It's awesome!

Get the installer here. Scroll down the thread. There should be a link.

Graawwwrrgghh... Grawwrrgghhh.... Aaarrrgghhh....

Fat Wolverine running mad like Stallone in The Expendables. Done with Paint Tool Sai.

Did the sketch when I was bored. I like it better somehow. More dynamic maybe. The painted one looks like he's off looking for a crapper.

Aku Taming Sari

The rest of the artwork I put on display at the Sama-Sama Guesthouse Mini Alternative Art Festival 2010 in Malacca. The second rendition of Jebat tops my favourite chart among the four. Nothing biggy. I thought it was a good exercise to improve my illustration style.

Overall it was a great experience. An eye-opener. Sama-Sama 2010 was a kick-ass event. We'll be there if there's a second one coming around. Here's the event report by Clifford Narcis (Totipero).

Mind Heist~

(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

INCEPTION, and it was truly an inception. Pure idea and cleverly genius story. The storyline wasn't the focus for me, but the idea behind it... This is a movie that make me go...."yeah, I know that feeling..." It's every situation that you have ever been dream of, yet interpreted in the movie with more detail.
I came across to this one video in youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVkQ0C4qDvM) about Inception music theme- "Mind Heist" by Zack Hemsey. camiam321(the person who posted this video) made a comparison between Zack Hemsey's "Mind Heist" and "Non, je je regrette rien" by Edith Piaf (in slow motion). It was totally neat... (for me).. Is it a coincident that those two music are similar or is it the same music? I don't really know...

Here is what I noticed about "Mind Heist".
The melody keep buzzing into my mind.. That rough buzzing echo... Maybe that's what you call mind heist. Or is it an idea that the music is trying to give us?

Aku Taming Sari: Hang Jebat

A bit of a preview for the Sama-Sama 2010 exhibition. Will post the rest after the exhibition ends.
Hmmm... left arm too long and big-ish. Considering that it's a 3-hour paint, I'm somewhat satisfied with the end result.

Left

This piece is part of the Sama-sama Guesthouse Mini Alternative Art Festival 2010 in Malacca.

“Left” started off as a doodle to observe the different interpretations formed by individuals in my life, sort of like an unplanned Rorschach test. One may see a fish and another may see a mushroom. Ultimately, it’s a small tiny window into another person’s mind and imagination.

Aku Taming Sari

This is a "teaser" image of sort for the upcoming exhibition in Malacca. Kudos to our colleage, Siew Wai for inviting me and Nadia for this exhibition.

Received mixed reviews on the work and especially on the title but I decided to have a go with it. It is still a WIP but I think some ideas and critique from the masses would be just great. I'm currently looking at three artworks for the exhibition but I certainly hope that I can show more design progression. We'll see.

Quickie Part II

Another quickie. This is Mr. Bored.

Quickie Part I

First post since March. Sad. Didn't really illustrate this with any purpose cause I was bored attending this one academic workshop at my workplace.

Anyways, I just watched Predators and I liked this Yakuza character, Hanzo. I thought I could doodle him out from memory and it ended up like this. It turned out "okay" to me (seeing it's a quickie doodle) but I'm not particularly happy with the left hand and the right arm and the face... and the whole composition (heh). Going to re-visit this for an art exhibition in Malacca.

Scrap it, don't toss it....

Doodling, sketching, simple drawing... whatever you call it.... Start scrapbooking it..
It doesn't matter if you draw it on a piece of tissue, on your notebook..or even on the table...photograph it.. Then take a sketch book, drawing block etc & start pasting all of it in... you soon will have a scrap book fill with your art with so many kind of method... It is your memorabilia.. no matter how horrible your drawings are.. it's your art... No one can determine what can be a good or bad art... But they can criticize I guess..hah..
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia;
Scrapbooking is a method for preserving personal and family history in the form of photographs, printed media, contained in decorated albums, or scrapbooks. The idea of keeping printed materials of personal interest probably dates to shortly after the invention of printing. This trend is probably similar for photographs.
Extra; "James Granger (1723–1776), a biographer, published a history of England with several blank pages at the end of the book. The pages were designed to allow the book's owner to personalize the book with his own memorabilia."

So do it.. share with your friends & stuff...

Insert Title Here...

Managed a quick-sketch of this guy during class.
Joe called him Mr. Horny Toad... and the name stays.

Wait... just wait...

Been too caught up with stuff. A LOT OF STUFF.... So wait... just wait, aight? While waiting for those, here's a couple of all-too-random brainfarts from me office... -_-"

Lazy sketch of a familiar-looking character on my whiteboard. Translation reads: "Ouch!"

Messin' around with Photoshop when Idris was in my office. This was what? Last year? Not too long after the Star Trek movie (image courtesy of Google... heh). If you have time and if you're bored, go look for animated gifs of Leonidas.

Hooolll-eeee Crrraapp....

Holy Crap! Not a single post since October (!!!). I thought after the Research Creation Exhibition 2 (RCE2) we'd post more :P And I was supposed to post the stuff that we put up for the exhibition. Been having too much fun. Well on the bright side, I've finished Modern Warfare 2 and The Saboteur.

Right now; me, Nad along with Joe are coming up with some samples of VFX shots for the students. The new semester is starting on the 18th of Jan (bleh). So hopefully either one of us could post that up.

Now.... where did I keep all those exhibition stuff... (digging through backup HDDs)...

And oh... Not too late yet I hope... HAPPY 2010!!! (:P)

And to wrap things up, here's a quick crappy mouse-painted familiar-looking character in homage of the title of this post.
